TAMUxWillBryant Mural
As President of our local student chapter of AIGA, also known here as The Design Group, it's my duty to bring exciting talks, workshops, and design opportunities to the small but mighty design community here at Texas A&M. Over the summer, I reached out to Will Bryant, a popular Austin-based artist known for his colorful murals, and asked if he'd like to visit College Station to share some of his wisdom with our students. He immediately agreed, and we began tossing around ideas for a fun hands-on experience our students might enjoy, before landing on the idea of a collaborative mural.
Over the next few months, I organized the event, working with the school facilities team to find a space on campus for our mural, the College of Architecture Dean's Office and Department of Visualization to secure funding, and my own officer team to collaborate with Will on the final design for the mural. We wanted the design to represent the diversity of disciplines within our AIGA chapter, and how we can all come together to create something awesome.
In December, after months of scheduling, budgeting, and designing, the "Creating Better Together" mural finally came to life! Will visited us for three days as we worked around the clock to bring the mural to life. Over 50 students participated, and along the way, a second mural was spontaneously born in the computer lab where we hold our meetings! This was an amazing event, and an invaluable personal experience in event planning and artistic creation. I'm so proud to be able to say this is the mark I get to leave on campus!
